Conflict drives Plot in a work of Fiction

In class, we have looked at many examples of short stories.  We have also looked at narrative poems.  We agree that these two types of texts follow a plot structure (per class discussion).  Explain conflict.  What types/kinds of conflict are there????  Give a brief explanation of EACH TYPE of conflict.   What does it mean when said : "The Conflict drives the plot of a story?"

Good Luck!

  1. There are 2 types of conflicts:
    Internal- Man vs. self
    External- Man vs. man, Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Society
    It means that in the story the main character encounters some type of problem that follows them throughout the story 'till they solve it.
    The difference between main conflict, and minor is that the major conflict isn't usually solved 'till near the end, while the minor conflict is something that might be in their way, but isn't the main thing that bothers them.

    -There are two kinds of conflicts. There's Internal Conflict and External Conflict. Internal Conflict deals with the inside. An example of Internal Conflict Is Man Vs Self, this is basically when a character is having problems with theirselves and they cant decide. External Conflict is dealing with something other than yourself. Examples of this is Man Vs Man (another person), Man Vs Nature (Vs Weather, Animals), and Man Vs Society (Vs the government). The Main Conflict is the problem that continues through out the story. The major conflict is the biggest conflict and minor is the smallest problem

  10. Well there are four types of conflict like: Man Vs Man, Man Vs Self, Man Vs Nature, and Man Vs Society. Conflict is another word for problem in a story.
    The difference between Main(MAJOR) conflict and Minor conflict is that Main conflict is usually the main problem of the story, while minor conflict is just one part of the main conflict.

  13. Internal Conflict; Man vs. Self, when a person is having troubles with themselves
    External Conflict;
    Man vs. Man-When they have problems with another person.
    Man vs. Nature- When the weather or the season is bothering that person some how
    Man vs. Society- When someone has troubles with the government .
    The main conflict; the most important problem of the story.
    The minor conflict ; doesn't really matter if it's solved or not.
